M.S.G. Acoustic Blues Trio - Traditional Piedmont Blues
Richmond Folk Music at Congregation Or Ami will host an evening of traditional Piedmont Blues by M.S.G. Acoustic Blues Trio on April 25th. This band can raise the roof with some old-fashioned house party tunes, make you laugh with their witty originals and then make you weep with blues ballads! Jackie Merritt, Miles Spicer and Resa Gibbs have been playing together for decades all over the east coast. They're steeped in the blues tradition, and they'll pull you right into the groove!
Piedmont Blues are built around a distinctive finger style guitar technique where the thumb keeps a steady, alternating bass while the fingers play melody, reminiscent of ragtime. The sound is light, rolling, and rhythmic—often upbeat, even when the lyrics aren’t. Like all blues, this music was born of hard times, but it's so sassy and witty that it's never depressing! And Piedmont Blues are woven into Richmond's DNA. This type of music would have been heard in Richmond's streets, on front porches, at house parties, and in bars and speakeasies, from approximately 1910 through 1940. So it's very much a part of RVA's history.

Tickets $12.00 in advance, $15.00 at the door. Concert begins at 7:30, doors open at 7:00. There's plenty of parking and the venue is accessible to all. Light refreshments (coffee, tea and pastries) will be available.
