From Compassion to Action: An American Story

From Compassion to Action: An American Story brings together film, storytelling, community voices, and a powerful keynote to illuminate what refuge truly means abroad and at home. The event opens with a warm welcome from our Master of Ceremonies, setting the stage for a night centered on belonging and shared humanity. The program includes a 30-minute film showcase, featuring a short film produced by an undergraduate University of Richmond student. The film will be followed by a live Q&A with participants featured in the documentary, offering a unique opportunity to hear directly from those whose stories shape the narrative. We’ll also highlight the impact of local service through a volunteer spotlight honoring an IRC Richmond volunteer whose dedication strengthens our community. The evening continues with a keynote address from Mark Pryor, a dedicated humanitarian, who will speak to the broader global story of refuge, resilience, and the ongoing work of welcome. To close, Justin Gandy, Executive Director of the IRC in Virginia, will offer final reflections. Following the evening’s program, join us for a reception open to all guests. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and the chance to build connections with other guests seeking to reclaim what it is to be American in an age of anti-immigrant rhetoric. This event is ticketed with limited seats, so please purchase yours today! Join us for an opportunity to listen, learn, and celebrate the diverse stories that enrich our Commonwealth. The Virginia Museum of History & Culture is not a sponsor of this event.
