Visit the Aftel Archive of Curious Scents in Berkeley
Come have an incredible time visiting Mandy Aftel’s world-class collection of one-of-a-kind-antique artifacts, aromatic materials, and century-old books from the world of natural scents!
In the outdoor smelling area, you'll be able to smell 50 different essences including the historical animal scents, some 100-year-old essences, and the legendary oud oil.
With your book handling glove (included in your museum toolkit), you'll be able to peruse the woodcut illustrations and read about the "virtues" of plants (how they were used for food, medicine, perfume) in three giant thousand-page Herbals, dating back to the 1600s.

Open from 10 am to 6 pm every Saturday. Tickets for one hour visit are $25 ($15 for youth under 18yr). Advanced reservations recommended in case tickets sell out. For everyone’s safety, masks required for the indoor part (and are provided).
