Queer Pop! Jazz Funk Dance Class Series

During this jazz funk class, the focus is on feeling your fantasy, baby. Jazz Funk is an industry-style dance form that pulls from many movement styles including hip-hop, jazz, heels, commercial dance, and contemporary performance. This class is all about feeling hot hot hot in your body, whether that’s soft, sharp, sultry, silly, powerful, or all of the above. This class is leveled at intermediate due to its quick pace and limited movement breakdown. That said, participants are always encouraged to make the choreography their own. Take what feels good, shift what doesn’t. Your body, your rules. This series is designed as a 4-week progression. Across the four weeks, participants will learn two choreography phrases: Weeks 1–2 (7/29 + 8/5): Choreography Phrase One Weeks 3–4 (8/12 + 8/19): Choreography Phrase Two Participants are welcome to drop in for individual classes, but attending the full series is encouraged for the fullest experience. During the final class on Week 4 (8/19), we’ll also have a videographer filming the last 20ish minutes of class. Participation in filming is completely optional. The footage is intended as both documentation and a tool for growth, reflection, and celebrating your dancing together. This is a supportive and affirming space for queer and trans embodiment, exploration, pleasure, confidence, and performance energy.
