Sanchez Art Center, Pacifica—A solo exhibition, A Special Kind of Existence, of artwork by Jeff Musser, will open in the Main Gallery at Sanchez Art Center on Friday, February 20, 2026, with an evening reception from 7 – 9 pm. Live music will be provided by Blue City Jazz.
The exhibition will feature paintings, drawings and collage that explore the artist’s engagement with how history and representation impact collective memory. The exhibition title refers to Musser’s realization that even at a young age he could clearly see that his physical appearance was indeed A Special Kind of Existence. Musser notes, “The way that my white classmates and teachers treated me in elementary school versus the callous way they treated my darker skinned friends was extreme. As a child, I didn’t have the knowledge to decipher all the coded language about skin color, but I knew internally that something was wrong.” This observation has stayed with him and evolved as growing older.
The East Gallery is presenting What’s So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding, an invitational exhibition sharing work in a variety of mediums. With a new year that has already been filled with uncertainty and grief, the exhibition looks to shed positivity, hope and uplift viewers with themes of kindness, compassion and harmony. A community event will be held on Sat, Mar 14, 3:30 pm. In the West Gallery, members of the Art Guild of Pacifica will participate in a group show titled Reflections.
On the last day of all the exhibitions, Sunday, March 22, the closing program will begin at 3:30 pm with a conversation in the Main Gallery with artist Jeff Musser and SAC Curatorial Director Alida Bray. Sanchez Art Center is located at 1220 Linda Mar Blvd, Pacifica, CA. Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm, and by appointment, during exhibits (except opening nights). Current shows through Sun, Mar 22. For more information: 650-355-1894, www.SanchezArtCenter.org.
