Sanchez Art Center, Pacifica—The 2026 Left Coast Annual Juried Exhibition opens Friday, April 10, with an evening reception from 7 – 9 pm. Juror Scott A. Shields, Ph.D., Chief Curator and Associate Director at the Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, selected 50 pieces from a remarkable group of more than 1,000 entries by artists from all five states that rim the Pacific Ocean (Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington). In considering the entries, Shields noted: “More than in most exhibitions I have juried, there was a greater abundance of art focused on the environment, and with it fear about our impact on humans. Many artists submitted work in craft-based media, itself a means of returning to one’s roots and making things by hand. Political views are prevalent though not always overt, many of the best submissions presenting their messages with cleverness and subtlety.” Shields will talk about his process and selections, and artists in the show will share about their artwork in a Gallery Talk | Walk, beginning at 1:30 pm, Saturday, April 11.
Showing concurrently is the 2025 LCA Awards Exhibition, featuring work by Madelyn Covey and Michele Foyer, selected by 2025 juror Carin Adams, Senior Curator of Art, Oakland Museum of California. Live music by local musicians Blue on Green with Rob Wullenjohn will provide added enjoyment for those attending the opening night reception, at no charge to the public.
After opening night, regular gallery hours are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 1–5 pm, through Sunday, May 10, with special hours/events the last two weekends of the shows. Sanchez Art Center is located at 1220 Linda Mar Blvd, Pacifica, CA. For more information: [email protected], www.SanchezArtCenter.org.
