On September 11, 2026, to mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, more than 600 volunteers from San Jose will join a massive nationwide movement to "Honor Through Action." As part of the largest annual day of service in U.S. history, organized and led by the nonprofit 9/11 Day, volunteers will pack more than 225,000 healthy, non-perishable meals for local families at risk of hunger. All meals packed will be donated to Second Harvest of Silicon Valley for distribution to individuals and families in need in the South Bay. This year’s milestone nationwide observance includes the participation of and partnerships with thousands of corporations, nonprofits, educational institutions, faith-based organizations, and five major U.S. professional sports leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and MLS), among others. The national observance coincides with the release of a major new independent documentary film exploring the 25-year evolution of 9/11 Day and service as a defining way Americans honor the day. According to Feeding America, tens of millions of Americans continue to face food insecurity. Now in its 3rd year, the San Jose Meal Pack is one of 50 large-scale volunteer service projects being organized nationwide by the nonprofit 9/11 Day. This 25th anniversary effort is expected to mobilize 50,000 volunteers to pack about 17 million meals, helping to unify and strengthen communities through shared action. 9/11 Day is the nonprofit organization that successfully advocated for the formal establishment of September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance under federal law. It is now the largest annual day of charitable service in U.S. history, with tens of millions of participants annually. Learn more at 911day.org.
