Join us for an engaging and informative Club Meeting as we explore the fascinating world of solitary bees! Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just beginning your journey, this event offers a wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded gardeners, share ideas, and deepen your understanding of these important pollinators.
Did you know that most bee species are solitary? Unlike honeybees, solitary bees do not live in large colonies or produce honey. Each female builds and provisions her own nest, often in hollow stems, small tunnels, or underground burrows. During our program, we’ll learn about their life cycles—from egg to larva to pupa to adult—and discover how these gentle, highly efficient pollinators support healthy gardens and thriving ecosystems.
We’ll also discuss how solitary bees differ from honeybees in behavior, habitat, and pollination style. You’ll gain practical tips on how to make your garden more bee-friendly by planting native flowers, providing nesting sites, and avoiding harmful pesticides. These small changes can have a big impact on local biodiversity.
A highlight of the meeting will be a hands-on workshop where participants can build their own bee hotel to take home. Bee hotels provide safe nesting spaces for cavity-nesting solitary bees such as mason bees and leafcutter bees. We’ll supply materials and guidance, and you’ll leave with both a finished project and the knowledge to properly place and maintain it in your garden.
This meeting is also a wonderful social opportunity. Connect with fellow plant lovers, exchange gardening successes and challenges, and be inspired by a community that shares your passion for growing beautiful, pollinator-friendly spaces.
Light refreshments will be served, giving everyone time to relax, chat, and build new friendships. New members are warmly welcomed—we’d love for you to join our growing garden community!
Come ready to learn, create, and be inspired. Together, we can help our gardens—and our pollinators—thrive. Please RSVP so we have enough supplies. 🐝🌸
