Auditions for the Monroe Community Players production of Silent Sky by Laura Gunderson
Auditions are open to anyone and everyone. Some roles may require specific ages and physical characteristics in keeping with the playwright’s intentions or within limitations of our performance agreement (age, gender, weight, race, etc.).
Silent Sky calls for four females (20s – 50s) and 1 male (20s). The director may decide to be flexible with the ages of the characters suggested by the playwright.
Monroe Community Players maintains a policy of open casting at all auditions. This means that unless announced otherwise prior to auditions, you will be auditioning in front of a group of others who are auditioning and may be asked to perform along with them.
Silent Sky is based on true story of Henrietta Leavitt, an astronomer ahead of her time. It is 1900, and Henrietta has the opportunity to work at Harvard University. She is eager to use Harvard’s telescope but is told that only men may do so. However, Henrietta will not be dissuaded. Henrietta’s relationships with her sister, love interest and co-workers strain under her obsessive work ethic. Silent Sky is the poignant tale of a woman’s dedication to the stars, and the human touch that makes life under the vast sky beautiful and timeless.
