The Co-op Mineral & Fossil Galleries Spring Showcase

The Spring Showcase at the Co-Op Mineral & Fossil Galleries invites you to experience the city’s world-renowned gem, mineral, and fossil show in a fresh, engaging way—without waiting for the winter shows. Taking place May 8–10 from 9 AM to 5 PM, this special event brings together select Co-Op members, featured artists, and a beloved local food truck for a vibrant, in-town experience rooted in discovery, creativity, and connection. At the heart of the showcase are four distinguished Co-Op members, each offering a unique perspective on the natural world: Geoworld Gallery— Museum-quality fossils, minerals, and natural history objectspresented as refined, design-forward works of art under the Stefano Piccini BespokeNature collection. Mineralphil Madagascar— Exceptional minerals and fossils originating from Madagascar, known for vibrant color and unique lapidary creations. Rosman Mineral Rocks Corp — Fine mineral specimens sourced from Mexico –obsidian, calcite, selenite, opal – a wide range of lapidary sculptures and decorative stones. Sahara Sea Collection — Fossils, meteorites, and minerals from Morocco, with a world-class trilobite collection and home of “Meg” the world’s largest shark jaw. Guests can connect directly with the Co-op’s vetted, owner-members whose expertise andglobal networks help make Tucson the epicenter of the gem and mineral world. The showcase also features local artists whose work is deeply connected to nature: Makoto Takigawa — A Japan-born artist with a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and a fossil preparator, Takigawa draws on both his cultural roots and paleontological experience. His paintings explore time, movement, and the visceral energy of the natural world, inviting viewers to form a personal connection through color and brushwork. Jamelle Texeria Jr. — A Tucson-based visual artist specializing in paleoart, Texeria creates dynamic reconstructions of prehistoric life. Inspired by a lifelong passion for paleontology, his work brings animals from the Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras to life through both digital and traditional media. Kathy Butterfield— A Tucson artist whose watercolor works celebrate the Sonoran Desert, Butterfield captures the rugged beauty and unique spirit of the region, sharing her deep appreciation for the landscape she calls home. Adding to the experience, Pupusería Rositas will be on site, serving its beloved handmade Salvadoran pupusas—a local favorite that brings flavor and community to the showcase. While Tucson’s gem show draws global audiences each winter, the Co-Op offers a unique opportunity to engage with these world-class experts year-round. The Spring Showcase highlights this ongoing presence—connecting locals with the people, stories, and extraordinary materials that define Tucson’s international reputation.
