Archaeology Cafe: Looking Back at the Path Laid Down

Join us on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) for “Looking Back at the Path Laid Down,” presented by Skylar Begay, Director of Tribal Collaboration in Outreach & Advocacy. Attend in person at Archaeology Southwest Headquarters, 300 N Ash Alley in downtown Tucson, or join us online via Zoom Webinar. Since he was a young adult, Skylar Begay has built and maintained trails across the public lands of Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. In this Archaeology Café presentation, Begay shares his firsthand knowledge about how trails are created, how they are cared for, and how they continue to shape both landscapes and lives. Drawing from his personal and professional experience, he will discuss the deep connections between people and place that trails embody, as well as the importance of including Indigenous voices and perspectives in how we interpret, tell, and steward these stories. Begay will also highlight how Archaeology Southwest collaborates with Tribes to ensure that interpretive trail projects honor and reflect living Indigenous relationships with the land. Archaeology Café is a free public lecture series by Archaeology Southwest that brings experts and lifelong learners together in an informal setting. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for light refreshments. The talk begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by Q&A. If you can’t attend in person, register for the Zoom Webinar to watch live from anywhere.
