Our Tucson Birthday celebration starts in the Slusser Library with opening remarks by the Education Director of the Postal History Foundation and the Postmaster of Tucson. The first through 3rd place art contest finalists will be unveiled for all three age groups. The Grand Winner has been chosen from the 1st place finalists. The grand winner will be unveiled and featured on a Tucson 250 Postcard. All students will receive awards, prizes, and collectibles featuring their own art.
Postcards and stamps will be avaible for the public to purchase as a commemoration of the significance of Tucson's 250th birthday.
The Postal History Foundation will also provide philatelic collectibles and book giveaways for the kids and families that attend. The PHF sales department will also have Tucson related stamp items for sale for those that collect or want to purchase a piece of Tucson related history.
A special pictorial USPS postmark commemorating Tucson's 250th birthday will also be available that day for mail processing and collectible use in the Postal History Foundation's contract post office.
The awards ceremony will be finished by 11:15am and the new exhibit in our Slusser library will be unveiled for visitors to see. The exhibit is called Tucson 250 : Desert, Culture, and Community. The exhibit will be available for several months.
