Envisioning Tomorrow - Portrait/Photography Exhibition
When: Opening Friday, March 6th, 6-9 pm, runs through April 25th, 2026
Where: 101 Archer Street, Oklahoma Center for Humanities, Tulsa University, Tulsa, OK 74103
Who: Anitra Lavanhar is a Tulsa-based fine art and portrait photographer and photography instructor whose work has been exhibited, published, and awarded locally and nationally.
What: Envisioning Tomorrow is a project funded by the Artist Creative Fund (ACF.) The exhibition will consist of 26 large-scale black and white portraits, each paired with a short narrative that draws from the subject’s hopes and dreams for the future. A participatory wall will invite visitors to contribute their own written narratives as well.
Why: Envisioning Tomorrow was born from my deep concern about the fear and division shaping so much of our national conversation, and from a belief that another story is possible. This portrait series reflects a small but powerful cross-section of the remarkable diversity found in the Tulsa area and challenges the assumption that differences in belief, background, and lived experience must inevitably divide us.
Each person photographed was invited to imagine the future they hope to create. By speaking our hopes aloud and making them visible, Envisioning Tomorrow reveals the common threads of humanity that bind us together, and reminds us of our collective power to turn what we imagine into what we can build, together.
Who should attend: The exhibition is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome. See Oklahoma Center for Humanities website www.humanities.ututlsa.edu for more information about hours of operation. Anyone interested in the future of our city, community and world!
