The screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by former Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor and featuring Catherine Gray, Ashli Sims, Darcy Wilborn, and Jennifer McGrail. The screening will also mark the launch of Venture Capital 101: The Show Her the Money College Educational Experience, an initiative created by Catherine Gray to expand venture capital education on college campuses through film, applied instruction, and engagement with founders and investors. About “Show Her the Money” Show Her the Money is an award-winning documentary examining the persistent funding gap in venture capital, where women receive less than 2% of total venture funding. The film follows women founders and investors working to reshape the funding landscape and highlights the role of education, access, and representation in building a more inclusive innovation economy. The documentary has screened in more than 100 cities worldwide and was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top financial films of the decade. Catherine Gray, executive producer of Show Her the Money, is an advocate for expanding access to capital for women founders. She is co-founder of the nonprofit She Angels Foundation and founder of She Angel Investors, a multimedia platform focused on connecting women entrepreneurs with funding and encouraging more women to become angel investors. Gray also hosts the Invest In Her podcast, which features conversations with founders and investors and focuses on increasing access to capital for women. The podcast is distributed across major platforms, including Apple, Spotify, and iHeartRadio. Launching Venture Capital 101 at UTulsa Venture Capital 101: The Show Her the Money College Educational Experience was developed in response to funding disparities in venture capital. Women receive approximately 2% of total venture capital funding. The program introduces students to venture capital as a career, startup funding, and investment pathway. The Venture Capital 101 learning experience combines curriculum with the documentary Show Her the Money to provide venture capital education alongside real-world industry context. The curriculum is developed by Girls Just Wanna Have Funds Film LLC in collaboration with Embolden Education, which provides applied venture capital instruction for students across academic disciplines. As the inaugural beta partner, UTulsa will pilot the undergraduate-focused program, providing foundational and applied venture capital education regardless of major or prior exposure to finance or investing. Embolden Education was founded by UTulsa alum Dr. Lesley Robinson, who has more than 20 years of experience designing and teaching entrepreneurial leadership and venture development programs in higher education. Why Venture Capital 101 Matters Venture Capital 101 is designed to broaden participation in venture ecosystems by introducing students to how capital moves through financial markets, including how deals are sourced, how startups are evaluated, how investment decisions are made and how access and influence shape funding outcomes. Through case studies, applied exercises, founder-investor discussions, and cohort-based learning, students develop the knowledge, skills, and professional networks needed to navigate venture ecosystems, both as founders seeking capital and as future investors. Women currently receive less than 2% of total venture capital funding, and approximately 4.9% of U.S. venture capital firms have majority-women partnerships. Expanding education, exposure, and early access to venture knowledge is widely viewed as a key factor in addressing these disparities. About the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship The University of Tulsa’s Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship supports students, faculty and alumni pursuing entrepreneurial pathways through education, programming, mentorship and access to funding, helping expand who participates in innovation and venture creation across the university ecosystem.
