WWFF Special Screening: ARGO Q&A with CIA Insider

Dear Washington West Community, We hope you’re staying safe and warm during this winter chill! We’re thrilled to invite you to our Washington West Winter Screening, taking place next month in Reston. Join us on Wednesday, February 26 at 6:00 PM for a very special screening of ARGO, followed by an exclusive post-film Q&A you won’t want to miss. Logline: Under the guise of a Hollywood producer scouting a sci-fi film, CIA agent Tony Mendez travels to Tehran during the 1979 hostage crisis to rescue six American diplomats. Following the screening, Jonna Mendez—former Director of Disguise at the CIA, longtime Washington West supporter, and widow of Tony Mendez—will join WWFF President Brad Russell for an intimate talk-back. Hear firsthand insights into the real history behind the film and the remarkable story that inspired it. This promises to be a truly unforgettable evening and a rare insider’s look at history. We hope to see you there! Warm regards, Washington West PS. ARGO isn’t our only event this Winter! We are also co-hosting a FREE screening of the documentary Ain’t No Back to a Merry-Go-Round at RCC on February 18th. A discussion with Director Ilana Trachtman will follow the screening. More information here. Logline: Five Howard students broke barriers in the summer of 1960 by riding the whites-only carousel at Glen Echo Amusement Park. Their protest sparked an unprecedented alliance with the local white community, drawing national attention, union support, and eventually producing ten 1961 Freedom Riders, including Stokely Carmichael, and a Supreme Court case.
