The exhibition will be on view from April 1 to 29 on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 5 p.m., in addition to special open hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 to 5 p.m. at Reston Art Gallery and Studios (RAGS), located at Lake Anne Plaza in Reston, Virginia. All are welcome to a reception to meet the artist on Sunday, April 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. A longtime Reston resident, Doug Fuller (aka RustDoug) began collecting rusty objects more than 20 years ago when he was drawn to a rusty crankshaft discarded next to a dumpster. In the tradition of Marcel Duchamp’s readymades, he started combining pieces to elicit new forms and objects, offering viewers opportunities to add their own perspectives. Over the past year, in response to a friend’s challenge, he has started adding scraps of plastic, crushed cans, and other detritus to his rusted metal works, and he is very excited about where this new direction is taking him. Doug began his education as an architecture student at Syracuse University, later switching to graphic design, and he has been a designer in Northern Virginia ever since. He has exhibited his work at galleries throughout the DMV and currently enjoys being an adjunct member at RAGS.
