Moe's Original BBQ Grand Opening


On May 19 at 1007 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, N.C., Moe's is bringing family-run, slow-smoked Alabama-style barbecue to the heart of Union County. Family-owned and operated by North Carolina natives Russell Gentry, Brooke Gentry, and Paul Davis, the new Moe's Original BBQ location offers dine-in seating, takeout and mouthwatering barbecue for the whole family. Monroe's Moe's will include a dedicated children's area with TVs showing children's programming, as well as a bar area with high-top tables, TVs for select sports programming, and beer and wine with plans for taps from local breweries in the future. The menu features Moe's Original BBQ's made-from-scratch offerings, including award-winning meats slow-smoked over oak and fruit woods, classic Southern sides, cornbread and signature house-made sauces. Guests can also enjoy favorites such as the slow-cooked pulled pork sandwich and Haul-It-Home takeout meals, along with rotating seasonal side specials. Menu items will also be available for order through DoorDash for delivery or pickup. The restaurant will open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with Mondays closed initially. "We wanted to create a place that felt welcoming and familiar to all," said Brooke Gentry, co-owner of Monroe's Moe's Original BBQ. "Whether you're sharing a meal with your family, picking up dinner on the way home or stopping by after work, we want every guest to leave feeling the warmth of Southern barbecue and a true sense of community." The journey to the grand opening in Monroe began more than six years ago when Brooke worked at the former Matthews Moe's location, deepening her passion for barbecue and hospitality. That experience sparked a dream of opening a Moe's of her own, and in 2022, Brooke joined forces with her husband, Russell Gentry, and his brother, Paul Davis, to bring that vision to life in Monroe, turning a shared family passion into a reality.
