Peacebuilders at Anne's Haven: A Trailblazing Teen Leadership & Community Service Program

Wednesday, February 04, 2026 - 6:00 PM
to Wednesday, April 29, 2026 - 8:00 PM

6:00 PM - 8:00 PM See all dates and Times

This teen leadership program is focused on building students’ leadership, communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills and inspiring creative community service. Partner organizations like BUILD Chicago, Junior Achievement of Chicago, and the Chicago Commission on Human Relations will present about topics such as leadership and coalition building, restorative justice, dialogue, and nonviolent communication, empowering students to become “peacebuilders” and build more just, peaceful communities. Students will then collaborate to create their own community service events focused on some aspect of peacebuilding or community service, under the guidance of experienced mentors. Importantly, students will gain valuable leadership and teamwork experience to add to their resume and college applications - making them a more competitive candidate for job opportunities - and learn about peacebuilding, an increasingly important career field. Participation in the community service program may also be listed as an internship on students’ resume. Students will also be provided with “Peacebuilder” certificates at the end of the program, and letters of recommendation upon request. The program is directed by Jacopo DeMarinis, a Chicago Public Schools teacher with a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, and Jodi Kay, a valued member of Anne’s Haven’s team who has an MBA from DePaul.
