Connect with More Compassion: Enroll in Family Peace Practice!

Program Info: Family Peace Practice consists of 8 weekly workshops from 4-6 pm on Saturdays and runs from September 5th to October 24th. Our program offers workshops held simultaneously for children (ages 7-13) and their parents or guardians. Our workshops help families learn to build stronger emotional connection and communicate in a peaceful, constructive way. Throughout the workshops, adults and children will participate in both separate and shared activities focused on topics like self-awareness, healthy self-expression, successful interpersonal communication, and effective conflict de-escalation. Children's activities include journaling, creative expression, communication exercises, group discussions, and reflective activities that help them to better understand their feelings, needs, and inner world. Adult activities include mindfulness meditation practice, group discussions, reflection exercises to connect with and identify needs, and role play to practice interpersonal communication and conflict de-escalation skills. Through Family Peace Practice, families will develop the skills to become more connected and communicate more compassionately through peacebuilding activities- building stronger listening skills, developing healthier ways of expressing needs, and strengthening trust. Our goal is that each family leaves the program with the necessary skills to foster more peaceful relationships at home and in their community. Program Facilitator Bios: Jacopo is the Director of Peace Education Programs at Anne’s Haven and a CPS teacher. He is bilingual in Spanish and is passionate about helping youth and communities build valuable peacebuilding skills. He received his Master's in Peace and Conflict Studies from Ulster University in Northern Ireland, where his research was featured on BBC Northern Ireland. Katie is a current Psychology student at the College of Lake County with a focus on child development. Her emphasis is on encouraging self-reflection and creativity to help children better understand themselves and their emotional landscape. Katie strives to support children in building inner peace and stronger connections with their families. Logistical Info: Each workshop costs $50 per family (please contact [email protected] to discuss financial aid possibilities). Families can register for the first four sessions and then enroll in the second half of the program after 1 month. Light refreshments will be provided.
