Artists Book House will host an Edward Gorey-themed open house and fundraiser - A Goreyesque Open House - on Saturday, December 13th, 2025 from 2:00 to 5:00pm at 4207 W Irving Park Rd, Chicago, IL 60641. Light refreshments will be served, and visitors will have the opportunity to view work by illustrator and comics artist Landis Blair, along with set pieces from The Uncanny Attic. Also on display will be a series of “Exquisite Corpses”, collaborations wherein artists design various body segments without seeing the others’ work, resulting in uncanny configurations.
The open house is free and open to the public. While ABH is not yet officially open, the fundraiser will provide a preview of the space. A newly renovated facade, along with a new roof, both in progress, are being funded by a Community Development Grant from the City of Chicago. ABH currently offers “pop-up” workshops in this location, but the open house will provide a glimpse of what its future holds. Writers, artists, and the curious public are invited to visit and learn more about the organization and how to support ABH in this next stage of their mission.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of Gorey’s birth and 25th anniversary of his death, and this ABH event honors these milestones.
