Angelina | The Wayward Daughter

This May, join the School of Ballet 5:8 for Angelina, the Wayward Daughter, a sweeping fairytale ballet about a princess who leaves the safety of her kingdom in search of freedom, adventure, and a life entirely her own. Inspired by the story of the Prodigal Son, this original full-length production follows Angelina, a strong-willed young princess who longs to discover what lies beyond the boundaries of her father’s kingdom. Certain that fulfillment is waiting somewhere else, Angelina leaves behind her family, her responsibilities, and the life she has always known. Her journey carries her through dazzling new worlds filled with excitement, beauty, humor, and possibility. But the freedom Angelina seeks soon comes at a cost. As she encounters unexpected dangers, broken promises, and profound heartbreak, the world beyond the kingdom proves more complicated than she imagined. Far from home and unsure where to turn, Angelina must confront the choices that brought her there and decide whether she has the courage to return. At the heart of the story is a father whose love remains constant. Angelina gradually discovers that love is not something she must earn through success, obedience, or perfection. It is a gift that has been waiting faithfully for her all along. Featuring a cast of more than 300 dancers from Ballet 5:8’s nationally recognized classical ballet training programs, Angelina, the Wayward Daughter brings together lavish costumes, dramatic classical music, immersive theatrical storytelling, and original choreography by Ballet 5:8 Artistic Director Julianna Rubio Slager. Audiences will journey through grand palace scenes, vibrant celebrations, mysterious landscapes, and emotionally powerful moments of loss, reconciliation, and return. Filled with humor, beauty, adventure, and emotional depth, the production offers a moving portrait of grace, forgiveness, courage, and the enduring love of a father. A BALLET FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY Angelina, the Wayward Daughter is designed to welcome audiences of all ages, including children, families, first-time balletgoers, and longtime dance patrons. The production tells its story through movement, music, costumes, scenery, and expressive theatrical imagery. No previous knowledge of ballet is needed to understand or enjoy the performance. Young audience members will be drawn into Angelina’s magical adventure, while adults will recognize the deeper themes of independence, identity, family, regret, forgiveness, and unconditional love.
