Recent Acquisitions Ongoing Exhibition

Cincinnati Art Galleries invites you to view our upcoming exhibition featuring over 100 American and European paintings from the late nineteenth century to the modern era. The exhibition will open Friday, February 13th, 2026 from 5:00-8:00 pm. Landscapes, cityscapes and marine scenes are presented alongside still lifes and figurative works. Featured artists include Willard Metcalf, Homer Dodge Martin, Henry Ward Ranger, Alexander Wyant, Edward Moran, Frederick Waugh, Emile Gruppe, Louis Ritman and others. This exceptional collection represents a significant cross-section of American painting from the post-Civil War era through the early twentieth century, showcasing multiple artistic movements including Hudson River School influence, Tonalism, American Impressionism, and early modernism. Marine paintings form a particularly strong component, with outstanding examples by Edward Moran, Frederick Judd Waugh, Richard Hayley Lever, and Robert Salmon that capture America's maritime heritage. American Impressionist highlights include Willard Metcalf's winter landscape pastel, Henry Ward Ranger's versatile watercolors, Louis Ritman's figurative works reflecting his Giverny training, and Emile Gruppe's vibrant New England scenes. Tonalist landscapes by Alexander Wyant, Homer Dodge Martin, and John Francis Murphy provide contemplative counterpoint, while European subjects and bronze sculptures round out the exhibition's scope. Works range from intimate cabinet paintings to substantial canvases at various price points, making the exhibition accessible to beginning collectors while offering museum-quality pieces for established connoisseurs.
