Also available by calling 865-974-5161 Tuesday thru Friday from Noon to 5 PM. This year marks the 60th anniversary since Fiddler first opened on Broadway. The show has become a staple of the musical theatre canon. It's the timeless story of a working-class man, Tevye, trying to protect his daughters and instill in them traditional values despite changing social norms. Tevye is part of a tight-knit Jewish community during a time of growing anti-Semitism in Czarist Russia. This setting adds a level of historical and ethnic detail which, given current events in the Middle East, will resonate powerfully for our contemporary audiences. Ultimately, the themes of tradition, family, and societal upheaval cut across barriers of religion, race, class, and nationality. We expect audiences will be moved by all kinds of emotions, crying tears of laughter, sadness, and joy. Once again, The WordPlayers will utilize all local talent on stage, in the orchestra, backstage, and on the creative team. Directed by Leann Dickson. Music Directed by Sheryl Lawrence Howard. Choreographed by Ashley Williams. Stage managed by Lucy Wright. Starring Dan Maxwell as Tevye and Nancy Duckles as Golde. This project is funded under a Grant Contract (Arts Project Support) with the State of Tennessee (Tennessee Arts Commission) and is sponsored by Asset Planning Corporation, Regal Cinemas, Warren & Kathy Payne, A&W Supply, William Blount & Associates, Home Federal Bank, and Townes Osborn & Bob Marquis. The current season is being supported, in whole or in part, by federal award number 21.027, awarded to Knox County by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Arts & Culture Alliance.
