Walking Tour-From Shoes to Shrapnel: Industrializing (east) Rochester *offsite tour

Before the village of East Rochester was established, the area flanking the New York Central tracks between Goodman Street and Culver Road was known by that name. Diverse factories lined the tracks, manufacturing everything from shoe lasts to shrapnel shells. This tour follows the 6th Ward eastward into the dense industrial district that developed along University Avenue between 1890 and 1930. Meet in front of Radio Social (20 Carlson Rd.) for this offsite 1.3-mile linear tour. (Tour ends at the corner of University and Atlantic). Registration is strongly recommended but not required. Presented by the Local History & Genealogy Division of the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County and sponsored by Fleet Feet.
