SouthernMediaCon - a Florida convention devoted to fan fiction, fan videos, fan art, and other fannish creations. There are panels to discuss all the aspects of fandom, from what shows are still favorites after decades, to shows that are current and hot. Discussions cover all the ways fans express their love of fandom, including creating fiction and art with their favorite characters. There are also more serious discussions concerning how fan fiction has become bestselling books, the growth of fan productions approved by media companies, and the psychology behind being drawn to certain story types. We also talk about what we are reading, watching, and writing about ourselves. We have fun stuff besides panels! There are trivia contests, a pub quiz, and curated song vid shows! As well as panels on arts and crafts, how to make that Star Trek costume you just saw on Star Fleet Academy or Murderbot. SouthernMedia also features a full con suite with soft drinks, all kinds of snacks, and goodies donated by all our members. In the con suite on Satuday, you can partake of the famous SouthernMedia gourmet cheese tasting - free! It features five or six gourmet cheeses choosen by a real-life cheesemonger for your enjoyment. And what would a gathering of fans be without pizza! Friday night, we will be hosting a great pizza dinner in the con suite. ($10). SouthernMedia is all about the fans, so we try to keep the cost low. If you buy before 6/10 the three-day event is $60. At the door price is $70. Daily prices - Friday $25, Saturday $35, Sunday $20. Our hotel is $119 a night, and you can pay at the door. There are great restaurants nearby, including an excellent Italian place literally in the parking lot.
