Tampa Theatre On The Road: The Black Pirate (1926)
Shiver me timbers! Join Tampa Theatre and the Henry B. Plant Museum for a FREE community screening in the Sykes Chapel on the University of Tampa campus, presented in celebration of the Museum’s “Gaspar’s Gold: Carnival and Community in a New South City” exhibit while the Theatre’s historic auditorium is closed for restoration.
The second movie shown at Tampa Theatre when it opened in 1926, The Black Pirate stars (and was produced by) Douglas Fairbanks at the height of his fame as a nobleman who infiltrates a band of pirates to avenge his father’s death.
This very special presentation of the sword-swinging silent film will feature an original musical score, composed and performed LIVE by Steven Ball, Tampa Theatre’s artist-in-residence and a member of the University of Tampa’s music faculty.
Ticket not required. Seating in the Sykes Chapel is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open 30 minutes before showtime.
