To kick off SXSW week (March 10–12, 2026), we're hosting Portraits After Dark at Riches Art Gallery—an after-hours, art+film showcase designed to extend filmmaker visibility, conversation, and community outside traditional screening rooms.
This is not a standalone party. It’s built as a curated extension of the festival environment—highly social, press-friendly, and optimized for real filmmaker-to-audience connection in a setting that encourages conversation, not turnover.
Program elements include:
Feature screenings + filmmaker commentary by Paul Sapiano (Driving While Black, The Boy & Girl’s Guide to Getting Down, Love at Poor Sight), plus a short film by Nina Kazé (Princess of Nowhere)
Special Talks with The Texas Archive of The Moving Image and The Austin School of Film
Opening exhibition reception featuring visual artists Stellina Stampouli, Dax Norman, and Paul Lewis
Filmmaker, artist, and industry access through intentional meet-and-greets and VIP conversation moments
Portraits After Dark is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring, artists, filmmakers, photographers, students, and community members to intermingle and learn from each other in a welcoming, shared space.
This event is an accessible opening for creatives to network outside of their immediate niches in Austin. All 18+ film friends welcome!
