Bread & Salt: Food as Memory + Connection
Across cultures, bread and salt have long symbolized hospitality, generosity, and shared humanity. Bread & Salt invites our community to explore what food carries beyond nourishment—memory, identity, tradition, care, and belonging.
Presented by 20×20 House Gallery and the Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation (LEDC), Bread & Salt is a community-centered initiative that brings together artists, writers, cooks, restaurants, and neighbors to celebrate the stories we carry through food.
The project includes three connected programs:
🎨 Bread & Salt Exhibition
August 1 – October 4, 2026
At the heart of the project is a multidisciplinary exhibition exploring food as a lens for storytelling. We invite artists working in all mediums to submit work that reflects on food's role in memory, culture, migration, family, ritual, labor, identity, and connection.
We welcome submissions including painting, sculpture, photography, installation, mixed media, writing, recipes, and objects or documentation of food traditions.
Submissions are open through July 10, 2026. Selected works will be featured in the exhibition at 20×20 House Gallery and may also become part of the Lansdowne Community Cookbook, extending the stories shared in the gallery into a lasting community archive.

🍲 Breaking Bread
Community Potluck & Storytelling Gathering
August 14, 2026
Join us for a communal meal where neighbors share dishes connected to family traditions, culture, and personal memories. Together, food and storytelling become a living archive of our community.
📖 Lansdowne Community Cookbook
Following the exhibition and potluck, recipes, photographs, artwork, and personal stories will be collected into the Lansdowne Community Cookbook, celebrating the diverse food traditions and histories that make our community unique.
Whether you're an artist, writer, cook, restaurant, or community member with a story to tell, we invite you to be part of Bread & Salt and help build a living archive through art, food, and connection.
